GUWAHATI- Two IndiGo (6E) Airlines flights bound for Dibrugarh (DIB) faced an unexpected diversion to Guwahati (GAU), the city in Assam, due to challenging weather conditions on July 13.
The flights originating from Delhi (DEL) and Chennai (MAA) were rerouted to ensure passenger safety amid poor visibility at Dibrugarh’s Mohanbari Airport.
IndiGo Delhi to Dibrugarh Flight Diverted to Guwahati
According to Flight Radar 24, IndiGo Airlines flight 6E2031 took off from Delhi (DEL) at around 1:09 AM UTC. After being airborne for almost two hours and 30 minutes, the flight reached Dibrugarh, but due to poor visibility, the pilot was unable to land the plane.
IndiGo flight crew then waited for some time, but poor weather circumstances forced them to divert to Guwahati (GAU). Subsequently, after almost 50 minutes, the plane landed at GAU.
The aircraft involved in this incident is Airbus A320neo, registered as VT-IVF. Further, it is a 5.9-year-old aircraft; Airbus delivered it to 6E in 2017, reports planespotters.net.
After a few hours, the flight again took off and landed safely at DIB.
Similarly, due to heavy rain and poor visibility, another IndiGo flight to DIB was also forced to divert to GAU.
Chennai to Dibrugarh Flight Diverted
IndiGo flight 6E2652 took off from Chennai at around 12:09 AM UTC. After being airborne for almost two hours and 30 minutes, the flight was forced to land at GAU.
The aircraft involved in the incident is 3 year old A320neo, registered as VT-ISE.
One hour later, the flight again took off and landed safely at DIB. All passengers and crew are safe.
Bottom Line
Unfavorable weather conditions, particularly reduced visibility, posed a significant challenge for the scheduled IndiGo flights. The absence of an Instrument Landing System (ILS) at Mohanbari Airport, compounded by ongoing runway merging work, contributed to the decision to divert the flights.
Landing at Dibrugarh became unfeasible due to the airport’s limited visibility, as reported by reliable sources. In order to prioritize the safety of passengers, the airline had to reroute the flights to Guwahati, where weather conditions were more favorable for landing.
IndiGo, committed to passenger safety, made it clear that no compromises would be made in this regard.
The airline emphasized that diverting the flights to Guwahati was a precautionary measure taken to mitigate risks associated with poor visibility and guarantee a safe journey for all passengers on board.
