ENGLAND- The OAG has published the Airline Frequency and Capacity Trend Statistics Report for July, and we have our top 10 carriers added to the report.
The global aviation capacity is anticipated to reach 512.2 million in the current month, marking one of the high-demand summer months. This signifies a 7.2% rise compared to the previous month and is only 2.2% lower than the figures recorded in 2019.
Global Outlook
There have been minimal changes compared to last month in terms of the regions that still show significant deviations from 2019 levels. These regions include Southern Africa (-21.6%), South East Asia (-16.5%), and Eastern/Central Europe (-16%).
The decline in South East Asia translates to a reduction of 7.4 million seats this July compared to 2019.
In a similar vein, Central Asia remains the fastest-growing region in terms of percentage, experiencing a 35.5% increase compared to July 2019.
Interestingly, North East Asia has nearly fully recovered and has witnessed the highest month-on-month capacity growth, adding an impressive 10.8 million additional seats.
Top 10 Airlines by Frequency
Now let us see the top ten airlines in the world by flight frequency,
1) American Airlines (AA)
The Fort Worth-based carrier has the highest flight frequency in July. It operated close to 178,476 flights, which is around 15% lesser than that of July 2019. However, it is approximately 5% higher than the last month.
2) Delta Air Lines (DL)
The Atlanta-based carrier operated around 146,219 flights in July. This is, however, much lower than that of July 2019. During that period, it operated 17% more flights. While 4% higher than in June 2023.

3) United Airlines (UA)
Chicago-based carrier operated around 134,427 flights in July, roughly 16% lower than in July 2019. It is 3% higher than that of June 2023.
4) Southwest Airlines (WN)
The Dallas-based carrier flew around 129,851 flights in July 2023. This is exceptionally higher by 6% compared to July 2019 data. Likewise, 6% higher than that of last month. Yes, this list is not just for U.S.-based carriers; they are the ones in the Top 4.
5) Ryanair (WN)
The Ireland-based carrier operated around 98,459 flights in July 2023, Which is truly amazing as it is 30% higher than that of July 2019. So it’s clear that Ryanair is operating more flights than ever before in and out of Europe. Further, it operated 5.6% more flights than in June 2023.
6) China Eastern Airlines (MU)
The Shanghai-based China Eastern Airline carried out 74,759 flights in July, less than half of AA. Further, it operated close to 5% more flights than in July 2019. While almost 11% higher than in June 2023.
7) China Southern Airlines (CZ)
The Ghonzhou-based carrier operated 74,215 flights in July 2023, which is just 500 lesser than China Eastern. Subsequently, this is 3.6% higher than that of July 2019. Further, it is significantly higher than that of last month by around 15%.
8) IndiGo Airlines (6E)
The Gurgaon-based India’s largest carrier operated 58,138 flights in July 2023. The number is outstanding as it is 31.5% more than that of July 2019. Further, it is 4.6% higher than last month. Recently the airline broke the record for operating 1,900 daily flights on its 17th anniversary.
9) Easyjet
The UK-based easyJet operated around 55,608 flights in July 2023. The number is 5% lower than that of July 2019. Further, it is 6% higher than that of last month.

10) Air China
The flag carrier of China operated around 52,591 flights in July 2023. This is 20% higher than that of July 2019. So Air China is ramping up its operations while other Chinese carriers are struggling in the world’s second-largest aviation market. Further, it is 7% higher than that of June 2023.

Half of the world’s Top 20 largest airlines are currently operating below the flight levels observed in July 2019. This situation is particularly evident among most major carriers in North America, except for Southwest Airlines, which is operating 6% more flights this month compared to July 2019.
In contrast, American Airlines, Delta Air Lines, and United Airlines are all experiencing a decline of around 14.5% to 17.5% in terms of flights operated this month.
