Turkish Airlines New Order for 355 Planes, Set to Become Largest A350 Operator in the World

DUBAI- The Flag Carrier of Turkey, Turkish Airlines (TK), with approximately 435 aircraft in its current fleet and an additional 100 on order, is poised to unveil a substantial order with Airbus, encompassing 345 planes.

Although some reports may present the figure as 355 planes, including the previously announced acquisition of 10 Airbus A350-900s, it’s crucial to note that the total value should be divided by two when assessing the significance of the order.

Turkish Airlines New Order

As a member of the Star Alliance and a partner with United Airlines, Turkish Airlines is more than 49% government-owned, serving as the national carrier and operating in a greater number of countries than any other airline.

Despite managing a diverse fleet comprising both Boeing and Airbus aircraft, and with additional orders for both manufacturers, Turkish Airlines is evidently leaning towards Airbus for its future operations.

In the realm of long-haul flights, the airline is poised to become the largest single operator of A350 aircraft.

The anticipated order is anticipated to include:

  • 250 Airbus A321neo
  • 75 Airbus A350-900
  • 15 A350-1000
  • 5 A350F freighters

Historical Order Underway

Should the involved parties reach an agreement, this order is poised to stand as the most extensive in the airline’s history.

Back in May, Ahmet Bolat, the chairman of Turkish Airlines, outlined the company’s intention to order 600 new aircraft in June, with the delivery scheduled over the next decade.

He mentioned that a portion of the order would be optional, contingent on a government decision anticipated within two months, as stated in June.

Additionally, officials from Turkish Airlines engaged in discussions with Rolls Royce regarding engine maintenance services and spare engines tailored for the wide-body A350 aircraft, according to reports from Anadolu.
