Ethiopian Airlines Marks 78 Years of Aviation Innovation in Africa

ADDIS ABABA- Ethiopian Airlines (ET) Group, the largest airline in Africa, celebrated its 78th anniversary on April 8, 2024, showcasing its enduring legacy of resilience and innovation dating back to 1946.

To honor this milestone, Group Chief Executive Officer Mesfin Tassew and Chief Commercial Officer Lemma Yadecha joined the crew on a flight to Cairo (CAI), marking the airline’s inaugural international service route.

Tassew and Yadecha exceeded their in-flight duties, helping passengers during check-in and boarding to ensure a seamless travel experience.

Tassew said, “This occasion shows our commitment to passengers and our belief in prioritizing service. Assisting passengers on this flight to Cairo honors our first international service and reaffirms our commitment to servant leadership principles.”

Since its modest beginnings in 1946, Ethiopian Airlines has made significant strides in African aviation, introducing numerous industry-first innovations. Tassew remarked, “As we continue to evolve, our dedication only grows stronger.”

Passengers on the anniversary flight were treated to Seasons Greeting Packages and Happy Fasting Messages, reflecting the airline’s respect for diverse cultural traditions. These packages included a commemorative postcard, serving as a tangible reminder of the airline’s enduring legacy.

Lemma Yadecha, the airline’s Chief Commercial Officer (CCO), highlighted that Ethiopian Airlines’ mission goes beyond mere transportation.
