ABU DHABI- Etihad Airways (EY) has been ranked the World’s Safest Airline for 2026 by AirlineRatings.com after evaluation of 320 global carriers.
The ranking highlights Etihad’s strong safety performance, modern fleet, and low incident rate, setting a new milestone for Gulf carriers.
How Airline Safety Rankings Determine 2026 Leaders
AirlineRatings.com evaluates airlines annually using safety and operational indicators, including incident rates relative to flight volume, fleet age, pilot training, serious incidents, and compliance with international aviation audits.
For 2026, additional weight was placed on turbulence prevention and management, as turbulence remains the leading cause of in-flight passenger and crew injuries. Airlines participating in the IATA Turbulence Aware program or equivalent data-sharing initiatives scored better due to improved risk forecasting and response.
Transparency in safety reporting and participation in independent onboard safety audits also influenced rankings. Analysts emphasized that safety differences among leading airlines remain extremely narrow.
Less than four points separated positions one through fourteen, and only 1.3 points separated the top six airlines. Experts caution that ranking differences should not be interpreted as major safety gaps.
