ATLANTA- Delta Air Lines (DL) is expected to announce a new nonstop route between Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (AUS) and Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport (CDG), with service likely scheduled to begin in summer 2027. Reports indicate the airline will unveil its latest Austin expansion plans on August 13.
The proposed route would strengthen Delta Air Lines (DL)’s presence at Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (AUS), where the carrier has rapidly expanded its operations. The move would also add another European connection from the growing Texas airport.
Delta Expands Austin Network With Europe in Focus
Delta Air Lines has been steadily increasing its investment in Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (AUS), transforming the city into one of its fastest-growing focus markets in the United States.
According to aviation publication Enilria, Delta is expected to make an Austin-related route announcement on August 13. Aviation industry insider JonNYC previously reported that the airline had been preparing to launch nonstop flights between Austin and Paris for summer 2027.
While Delta has not officially confirmed the destination, the timing of the announcement strongly aligns with airline schedule planning for the 2027 summer season.
The expansion is part of Delta’s broader strategy to strengthen its position in Austin, a market the airline considers highly valuable for both passenger growth and its co-branded American Express credit card business. Company executives highlighted Austin’s long-term importance during an earnings call last year, View from the Wing reported.
Austin Becomes a Key Growth Market
Delta has significantly expanded its presence at Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (AUS) over the past several years.
The airline has already surpassed American Airlines (AA) to become Austin’s second largest carrier behind Southwest Airlines (WN). Future airport expansion plans are expected to provide Delta with as many as 15 gates during the planned new concourse development in the 2030s.
Supporting that long-term strategy, Delta has committed to constructing a new 30,000-square-foot Sky Club at Austin Airport.
Rather than replacing the existing lounge, reports indicate the current Sky Club located near the airport’s international gates will remain open and could eventually be converted into a dedicated Delta One Lounge for premium international travelers.
Such a move would support additional long-haul international services from Austin in the future.
Existing European Service Builds Foundation
Austin has steadily expanded its nonstop European network in recent years.
Currently, Delta’s joint venture partner KLM Royal Dutch Airlines (KL) operates flights between Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (AUS) and Amsterdam Airport Schiphol (AMS) three times each week.
The airport also offers nonstop European services operated by British Airways (BA) between Austin and London Heathrow Airport (LHR), along with Lufthansa (LH) flights connecting Austin to Frankfurt Airport (FRA).
Adding Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport (CDG) would further diversify Austin’s transatlantic network while strengthening Delta’s global connectivity through its largest European hub.
Passengers would gain convenient onward connections across France, Europe, Africa, and the Middle East through Delta’s SkyTeam partner network.
Paris Preferred Over Seoul
Industry discussions about Delta launching long-haul international flights from Austin date back to before the COVID-19 pandemic.
Although Paris has consistently been viewed as the leading candidate, Seoul Incheon International Airport (ICN) was also considered as a possible destination.
Reports suggested Delta Air Lines (DL), Korean Air (KE), and Samsung had explored the possibility of launching nonstop flights between Austin and Seoul, with Austin airport reportedly offering incentive packages for both potential routes.
Despite those discussions, Paris appears to have emerged as the preferred first long-haul destination.
Why Delta Can Successfully Launch Austin to Paris
Austin nearly gained nonstop Paris service in summer 2020 when Norwegian Air Shuttle (DY) planned flights between Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (AUS) and Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport (CDG).
Those plans were abandoned after the COVID-19 pandemic forced Norwegian to permanently end its long-haul operations.
At that time, Air France (AF) was widely viewed as the most operationally efficient option because Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport (CDG) serves as the airline’s primary hub.
However, Delta’s continued expansion in Austin has changed the economics.
The airline now maintains crew bases in Austin, reducing operational complexity and positioning costs while supporting a growing local customer base. Combined with its expanding airport infrastructure and premium lounge investments, Delta is now in a stronger position to sustain nonstop transatlantic operations from the Texas capital.
If officially announced, Austin to Paris would represent another major milestone in Delta’s long-term strategy to establish Austin as an important domestic and international gateway.
