DOHA- Qatar Airways Cargo (QR) will launch its first scheduled freighter service from Helsinki Airport (HEL) on 2 September 2026, connecting Finland with Doha Hamad International Airport (DOH) via Budapest Airport (BUD).
The weekly Boeing 777 freighter service will add 100 tonnes of export cargo capacity from Helsinki each week, raising Qatar Airways Cargo’s total weekly cargo capacity from the Finnish capital to more than 170 tonnes.
Qatar Airways Cargo Expands Helsinki Freight Network
Qatar Airways Cargo will operate the new service once a week on the Doha-Budapest-Helsinki-Doha route. The Boeing 777 freighter will provide dedicated cargo capacity for shipments originating in Finland and strengthen the airline’s freight connectivity between Helsinki and its global network.
The freighter operation will complement Qatar Airways’ seven weekly passenger services between Doha and Helsinki. These passenger flights provide more than 70 tonnes of weekly belly-hold cargo capacity each way.
With the additional freighter operation, customers in Finland will gain greater access to Qatar Airways Cargo’s network through its Doha hub. The network connects European markets with destinations across the Middle East, Africa, India, Asia and Australia.
The new service also follows the reinstatement of Qatar Airways passenger frequencies to Helsinki, giving cargo customers additional capacity and connectivity from Finland.
Helsinki Serves as a Key Nordic Cargo Gateway
Helsinki plays an important role in Finland’s international supply chains and serves as a gateway for high-value and specialised cargo moving between Nordic businesses and global markets.
Major Finnish export commodities include high-tech products, electronics, industrial machinery and spare parts. Pharmaceuticals, healthcare products, perishables and e-commerce shipments also form an important part of the market.
Import flows include electronics, consumer goods, automotive components, industrial equipment and e-commerce products. These cargo categories support Helsinki’s role as both a manufacturing and distribution hub.
The dedicated freighter service is designed to provide additional capacity for these industries while giving businesses greater access to international markets through Doha.
Specialised Cargo Products Support Finnish Shipments
Qatar Airways Cargo offers a range of specialised products designed for different cargo requirements. Its portfolio includes TechLift, Pharma, Fresh and Courier services.
These products support shipments that require specialised handling, controlled processes or specific transportation conditions. The portfolio is particularly relevant to Helsinki’s mix of technology, pharmaceutical, healthcare, perishables and e-commerce cargo.
The airline says its cargo products are designed to maintain quality, efficiency and reliability throughout the transportation process.
Road Feeder Services Extend Regional Reach
Qatar Airways Cargo will also use its Road Feeder Service (RFS) partners to provide scheduled and ad hoc trucking solutions to and from Helsinki.
The trucking network extends the airline’s cargo reach beyond Helsinki Airport and connects customers across Scandinavia and the Baltic region. This gives shippers additional options for moving freight between regional markets and the airline’s international air cargo network.
The combination of air freight and road feeder services can provide access to markets that are not directly served by Qatar Airways Cargo aircraft.
Digital Lounge Enables Cargo Bookings
Customers will be able to book shipments on the new Helsinki freighter service through Digital Lounge, Qatar Airways Cargo’s digital booking platform.
The platform allows customers to book shipments across the carrier’s global network and access its range of cargo products. The digital system supports the airline’s wider investment in technology and cargo service development.
Qatar Airways Cargo Continues Fleet and Network Expansion
Qatar Airways Cargo is headquartered in Doha, State of Qatar, and operates its main hub through Hamad International Airport. The carrier serves more than 60 freighter destinations and more than 160 destinations through passenger aircraft belly-hold capacity.
Its fleet includes 30 Boeing 777 freighters, supported by more than 240 passenger aircraft that provide additional belly-hold capacity.
Qatar Airways Cargo is also the launch customer for the Boeing 777-8F. The aircraft incorporates newer technology and is expected to deliver a 25% improvement in fuel efficiency and emissions compared with earlier-generation freighter aircraft. Deliveries are expected to begin in 2027.
The airline continues to invest in digitalisation, cargo products, facilities and services as it expands its global freight operations.

Qatar Airways Cargo also operates its WeQare programme, which focuses on four pillars: environment, society, economy and culture.
Through the programme, the carrier supports charitable, environmental and humanitarian initiatives across its international network.
The Helsinki freighter launch adds another scheduled cargo connection to Qatar Airways Cargo’s European network while increasing dedicated capacity for Finnish exporters. The service will also provide businesses in Finland and the wider Nordic and Baltic regions with additional access to global markets through Doha.
