GLASGOW— Passengers on a Ryanair (FR) flight from Glasgow Airport (GLA) to London Stansted Airport (STN) faced a lengthy delay on August 27, with tensions reportedly rising inside the terminal before the aircraft eventually departed.
Ryanair flight RK329 was scheduled to leave Glasgow for London at 7 pm on Thursday, August 27.
Flight-tracking data shows the Boeing 737 service eventually departed at around 2:35am on August 28, more than seven hours after its scheduled departure time.
Glasgow flight delayed
The prolonged delay left passengers waiting at Glasgow Airport well into the early hours of Friday. The disruption also coincided with reports of a physical altercation involving passengers waiting to board the delayed flight.
One passenger posted on X during the delay, warning the airline that several people were allegedly fighting while waiting for the service to depart.
The passenger also described the situation as involving intoxicated travellers and expressed concern about the conditions on the eventual flight.
The comments highlighted the growing frustration among passengers after hours spent waiting for the aircraft.
However, there was no immediate confirmation from police or the airport about the reported altercation or whether anyone was arrested.
Ryanair explains delay
Ryanair attributed the disruption to adverse weather conditions at London Stansted Airport.
According to the airline, the weather affected the inbound aircraft scheduled to operate the Glasgow service, preventing it from leaving Glasgow as planned.
The airline said passengers received updates through email, push notifications and the Ryanair mobile application during the disruption, Herald Scotland flagged.
It also stated that affected passengers were provided with refreshment vouchers while they waited for the flight to operate.
Flight-tracking records indicate that RK329 eventually left Glasgow at approximately 2:35 am, although Ryanair stated that the service departed at 2:25 am.
The difference reflects the variation between airline operational records and publicly available flight-tracking data.
London arrival confirmed
The delayed flight finally reached London Stansted at approximately 3:32 am on Friday, August 28. The aircraft spent around 57 minutes in the air on the Glasgow-London sector.
The scheduled arrival time had been 8:20 pm on Thursday, meaning passengers reached London more than seven hours after the original timetable.
The incident extended what should have been a routine short domestic flight into an overnight journey.
Ryanair said it had communicated the delay to passengers and provided refreshments during the disruption.
Glasgow Airport and Police Scotland were also approached for information regarding the reported passenger fight, but no further details were immediately available.
The incident demonstrates how weather-related disruption at an arrival airport can affect aircraft rotations across an airline’s network. For passengers, the operational delay was compounded by the reported confrontation among travellers before the flight eventually departed.
