British Airways Will No Longer Fly Airbus A380 From These 3 Cities

LONDON— British Airways (BA) will reduce its Airbus A380 network from London Heathrow Airport (LHR) during the 2026/27 winter season, removing the superjumbo from three destinations.

The changes will see Dubai International Airport (DXB), Los Angeles International Airport (LAX), and Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD) lose scheduled A380 operations.

The changes are linked primarily to the ongoing refurbishment of British Airways’ 12-aircraft A380 fleet. The airline currently operates the aircraft in a 469-seat configuration, while the planned retrofit reduces capacity to 421 seats and increases the emphasis on premium cabins.

Four A380 Routes From Heathrow

British Airways will operate the A380 on four routes from Heathrow during the winter schedule, compared with seven during the previous winter.

Miami International Airport (MIA) will receive two daily A380 rotations, while Johannesburg, San Francisco, and Singapore will each retain one daily service.

The winter schedule begins on October 25, 2026, and continues until March 27, 2027.

Industry schedule data shows the airline planning around five daily A380 departures from Heathrow during much of the winter period, compared with approximately seven daily departures during the comparable period last year.

Miami remains an important A380 destination for the carrier, with the aircraft continuing to operate two daily services. British Airways has used the A380 on the Heathrow-Miami route for more than a decade, although operations were interrupted during the COVID-19 period.

Three Cities Lose A380 Service This Winter

Los Angeles is among the destinations losing the aircraft from October 25. British Airways is scheduled to use Boeing 777-300ER aircraft instead, while the A380 is currently planned to return to the route from March 28, 2027.

Dubai will also no longer receive the A380 during the winter season. The aircraft change affects the equipment used on the route rather than removing British Airways’ entire Dubai operation, with the airline continuing to serve the market using other aircraft.

Washington Dulles will likewise lose its A380 operation for the winter. The route has historically received the double-decker more selectively than some of British Airways’ other long-haul destinations, and no A380 service is currently scheduled for the winter period, Simple Flying reported.

A380 Retrofit Program Continues Gradually

The reduction in A380 flying comes as British Airways continues its major cabin refurbishment program. The planned 421-seat layout includes 12 First Class suites, 110 business-class seats, 84 premium-economy seats, and 215 economy seats, according to published retrofit information.

The program means fewer A380 aircraft can be available for regular passenger service while individual airframes undergo work. British Airways therefore continues to adjust aircraft assignments across its long-haul network as the refurbishment progresses.

For winter 2026/27, the remaining A380 destinations from Heathrow will be Miami, Johannesburg, San Francisco, and Singapore.

The schedule remains subject to operational changes, but the latest filings indicate that the three removed destinations will rely on other aircraft during the winter season.
