DUBAI- An Air India (AI) flight operating from Vienna (VIE) to New Delhi (DEL) was diverted to Dubai on Wednesday, October 8, 2025, due to a suspected technical issue. The aircraft landed safely and underwent necessary maintenance checks before continuing its journey to the Indian capital.
Flight AI154, which departed from Austria’s Vienna International Airport on October 9, was rerouted as a precaution after the crew detected a potential technical irregularity during the flight. The aircraft was received at Dubai International Airport (DXB).
Technical Checks Completed
Air India’s spokesperson stated that the aircraft was examined by ground engineers upon arrival in Dubai. After confirming airworthiness, the flight resumed its journey and departed at 08:45 hrs IS, the spokesperson said and quoted in NDTV:
All passengers were kept informed about the delay and were provided refreshments. We regret the inconvenience caused due to the unforeseen delay. At Air India, the safety of passengers and crew remains our top priority.
No injuries were reported among passengers or crew members. The airline did not disclose the nature of the suspected technical issue but confirmed that the incident was managed according to standard safety procedures.
The airline’s spokesperson reiterated that Air India continues to operate its fleet under rigorous maintenance and safety oversight:

Previous Incident Involving RAT
This marks the second technical-related event involving an Air India Boeing 787 Dreamliner in recent days. Earlier, on October 4, flight AI117 from Amritsar (ATQ) to Birmingham (BHX) landed safely after its Ram Air Turbine (RAT) deployed during final approach.
During the Birmingham-bound flight, all electrical and hydraulic systems continued to function normally despite the RAT deployment. Air India confirmed that the aircraft was grounded for further inspections, and the return flight, AI114 from Birmingham to Delhi, was canceled.
The Ram Air Turbine is a small emergency device that deploys when an aircraft loses main electrical or hydraulic power. It generates backup power to maintain essential flight controls and instruments.
Air India emphasized that both incidents were handled in strict compliance with international aviation safety standards and that no passengers were harmed in either case.
